A chalazion is an eyelid cyst that appears when a Meibomian gland becomes blocked. When it does not respond to medical treatment (warm compresses, massage and antibiotics), it is removed surgically.
What is it?
A short outpatient procedure in which the cyst content is drained and removed through a small incision, usually on the inner side of the eyelid to avoid visible scars.
Who is it for?
People with a prior diagnosis or suspicion of chalazion surgery, or who have been referred for evaluation by their treating physician. Each case is reviewed individually before proposing a procedure.
How is it performed?
Under local anesthesia it takes 10 to 20 minutes. The patient leaves the same day with care instructions and a short treatment with drops or ointment.
Recovery
Mild swelling for 24-48 hours. Most people resume daily activities the next day.
