When the eyelids droop over the eye (ptosis or dermatochalasis) they reduce the upper visual field and create a feeling of heaviness, in addition to the cosmetic impact. Eyelid surgery restores the correct lid position and improves vision.
What is it?
Outpatient procedure that repositions the levator muscle or removes excess skin and fat, depending on the case. It can be performed on both eyelids at the same time.
Who is it for?
People with a prior diagnosis or suspicion of eyelid surgery, or who have been referred for evaluation by their treating physician. Each case is reviewed individually before proposing a procedure.
How is it performed?
Under local anesthesia with light sedation, a discreet incision is made in the natural eyelid crease and the lid height is adjusted or excess tissue is removed. It takes 45 to 90 minutes.
Recovery
Mild swelling and bruising during the first week. Stitches are removed at 5-7 days and most people return to daily activities within a few days.
