Ophthalmic ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging study that uses high-frequency sound waves to examine the internal structures of the eye when conventional techniques cannot reach them.
What is it?
A high-resolution diagnostic tool, useful when ocular media are opaque (dense cataracts, bleeding) or when tumors, detachments or foreign bodies are suspected.
Who is it for?
People with a prior diagnosis or suspicion of ophthalmic ultrasound, or who have been referred for evaluation by their treating physician. Each case is reviewed individually before proposing a procedure.
How is it performed?
The study is performed in the office, lasts a few minutes and is completely painless. A gel is applied to the eyelid or eye surface and a probe captures real-time images.
Recovery
No recovery is required. You can resume your activities immediately after the study.
